Tis the season to be tearful

December 20, 2014

“Tis the season to be jolly” or something similar… sadly, there is no joy for some people over the holiday season. Countless people living alone, with no visitors, the homeless trying to stay warm on the streets, out in all the cold blistery weather. For those with mental health problems, it can also be a distressing troubling time. The previous two categories of lonely and the homeless people,  often have mental health conditions.fb-IMG_1152

How many times have you noticed people smiling in this streets shopping for their families presents, I can be sure that many more are not smiling. So, mentally ill over Christmas, what do you do?

Distract yourself, that’s my way. Plenty of television show’s to watch, mostly repeat’s of course, so a good chance to laugh at Father Ted and his dysfunctional friends on Craggy Island.

For me, loads of war films, I got my music, my kitten Sam, and a lady to keep me company. Two stressful years together but we made it. Life isn’t easy, no-one ever said it was, but if you are suffering from a wild range of illnesses such as Borderline Personality Disorder, Manic Depression, and there are many more I could list, just remember your not alone. We’re are never really truly alone, even when I’m on my own at home, I got my online friends keeping me company. Don’t be tearful this season, Pour a glass of wine, put your feet up, and watch some tv. Feel more energetic? Grab a camera, go for a walk, and see how may different species of birds you can see. If it really gets too much, the Samaritans can be contacted at jo@samaritans.org

In the UK you can phone them at: 08457 90 90 90

In the Irish Republic you can phone them at: 116 123

Please remember you are never truly alone, take care and Merry Christmas.
